Ascent Trip ReportOverton county’s highpoints are three rather non-descript areas, only one of which has a slight view.
The contours are north of Monterey at either exit 300 or 301 from I-40
Take TN-164 ENE out of Monterey for 1.3 miles
Then turn left on to Buckner Rd for 1.2 miles to the first contour on the left. There are the remains of a trailer here and a small view through the trees to the northwest is as good as it gets. This point is right on the county line.
The next point is about a tenth of a mile further down on Ridge Rd in someone’s back yard. It was 8:00 on a Sunday morning so I didn’t pay them a visit
The other point is reached by turning off of Buckner on to Ridge Rd (going downhill at this point). Follow Ridge Rd until you find a suitable place to park and begin bushwhacking back up hill. I saw no signs but based on driving exploration of the area the HP is probably in the back yard of who ever lives at the end of Hampton Ln. As Darryl Montgomery said there is not much a view from here.
One may also take exit 301 to reach Putnam county’s highpoint which is only a few miles in the other direction
