Ascent Trip Report

Humphreys county has 7 contours at 880 feet located between McEwen and Dickson about 3 miles north of US-70/TN-1. This high point took two attempts to complete because the first time I visited (after climbing Dickson county) I found the gate to the southern points locked and had leave early because of work time constraints. Yes, I was high pointing on company time.

The first four points are just off Old Nashville Highway and easily accessible. The largest contour encompasses the road at the intersection of Old Nashville Highway and Wilson Hollow Rd and is located on the county line with Dickson. There is supposed to be a benchmark near the county line here but I was unable to find it. There are three smaller contours to the north near a small house and in the fields surrounding it. No one was home on my first visit, so I made a quick run into the fields and back.
The second two contours are on private, gated property south of the road. On my second visit I was lucky enough to find the gate open and lady of the house home. She had no problem with my visit. The first is the ground the house sits with 2 others in the fields to the south; one is right on the county line.
The last point is in an undeveloped stand of trees off the next road west of the first point, Tummins Rd. I found a small place to pull off and park near the contour and walked back through the woods about 50 yards until I located the contour.

The Humphreys county high points may be reached either by going north from McEwen or northwest from the town of Dickson.
From McEwen, take Main St north out of town and turn left (east) onto Hargis Rd. This becomes Old Nashville Highway/County Rd 1808; the county line and the first contour is about 5.2 east.
From Dickson, take TN-46 northwest out of town, passing the Dickson county high point on the way. About 6 miles after the high point, turn left (west) on to Old Nashville Highway (also called Old Number 1 Rd); the high points for Humphreys are 3.1 miles from the intersection.

Note: the Houston county high points are not far from here as well
