Ascent Trip Report

The second "peak" in my Orly to Normandy highpoint odyssey. I drove via Verrières-le-Buisson up the Rue des Gatines until I reached a dead end at a small car park in the forest with the usual signboards about flora fauna and history (all in French only). From there a 15 minute walk NE through very pleasant forest (with nest building birds and woodpeckers hammering in the trees) brought me to the Carrefour de l'Obelisque, a central junction (roundabout) in the forest. It appeared from the parked cars that others had driven to that point from the north but I didn't confirm it was open access. The highest spot height on the latest mapping is at the next junction reached by heading in a SW direction for about 150m. This is the junction between the Route de l'Abbaye and the Route de la Chataigneraie. The summit area is large and flat so take your paick where the true highest point is. My guess would be just behind the Maison de Forrestière but hard to say.

All in all a much more pleasant hour than anticipated, and just to top it off I had a great view of a woodpecker while I ate my lunchtime sandwich.
