Ascent of Esther Mountain on 2009-09-13| Date: | Sunday, September 13, 2009 | | Ascent Type: | Successful Summit Attained | | Motorized Transport to Trailhead: | Car | | Peak: | Esther Mountain | | Location: | USA-New York | | Elevation: | 4239 ft / 1292 m |
Ascent Trip ReportWe began our trip to the summit from Wilmington Trail with a light rain and considerable dampness. First mile of the hike was fairly steep, was an old ski run. Reached the top of Marble Mtn, foundation of an old T-Bar lift was still intact, some views from here and obvious that we would be in the clouds though rain had stopped. Trail from here to the summit of Whiteface was relatively easy, views this trip were less than rewarding however. Left two others (slower hikers) on the summit of Whiteface and descended to climb Esther. Unmarked path ending with a heavily wooded summit, about a 2 mile round trip back to the Wilmington Trail. Some views on the descent, but nothing fabulous. Some foliage beginning to appear. Returned to the vehicle very clean, nearly no mud this trip.
