|Date:||Sunday, March 7, 2010|
|Ascent Type:||Successful Summit Attained|
| Motorized Transport to Trailhead:||Car|
| Elevation:||7474 ft / 2278 m|
Ascent Trip ReportDirect Route up the east side from County Rd 2058. West side route from CR 2084 would have been easier(class I), a jeep road climbs to within 600 feet of the summit. East Side Route: Take I-80 exit 93 at Toulon and proceed west on Ragged Top road which is a good dirt road suitable for 2wd in dry weather, climb over a pass at 5760ft crossing under a set of powerlines. Then the road descends to the Granite Springs Valley where the road is hard-packed sand and suitable for higher speeds (but watch out all along the roads for scattered small sharp rocks).
At 19 miles from exit 93, proceed north on CR2058 (also hardpacked sand)for 7 miles then park on the side and head west up gently climbing slopes for about 1.5 miles to a ravine entrance, then follow the ravine on well traveled cowpaths to where it opens up at 5900ft.You will encounter some rocky areas in the creek bed (class II) just sidehill up around them. From 5900ft follow a ridgeline through open sagebrush and juniper trees to the summit which is continuously in view. I placed a blue pvc summit register under rocks at the benchmark.
