I was always a hiker, but climbing mountains was secondary. In 1973 I got involved in bicycle racing, which was my driving passion for all of my adult life. Still, I'd go out to the desert in the winter and hike and climb. No agenda. But in June of 2012 I succumbed to a series of injuries that sidelined me from training and racing, so I went for a hike. Not long after, my OCD kicked in and now I'm climbing mountains. I love it, and so does Lorraine, who accompanies me on most of these climbs. Life is good, especially as seen from a mountain top.
