i'm a late blooming peakbagger, i've only been actively peakbagging since the autumn of 2015. i hiked the southwest US a bit in the late 90s, with no particular peak focus. then i was swallowed up by city life, and working too hard. in 2012 i broke my ankle, and as part of PT i started walking a lot. that lead to a slow reawakening of my enjoyment of hiking. in 2014 i remembered alta peak from a sequoia national park brochure i read in the 90s, "14mi, 4000' climb". i set that as my goal for 2015, and proceeded to increase the distance/elevation of my hikes to hit the goal. after completing alta peak i set about looking for more peaks and eventually came across peakbagger.

in 2016 i went for quantity, trying a whole bunch of different peaks in different places, trying to figure out what i liked. a few things became quite apparent: i really like prominence, i don't like repeating peaks, and i'm not a fan of "liners" or peaks which are highest within some arbitrary (political or otherwise) polygon. by chance, late in the year, i found myself at the top of the LoJ leaderboard for P1ks and P2ks and i set out to ensure i kept the top spot. it was a very productive first year, but i'm not sure i'll have the stamina to go after that many peaks every year!

we'll see though: i set my 10 year goal at 600 peaks of 600m prominence.
