Ascent Trip Report

I parked on Westminster Rd (100 Westminster Rd was what I used in the GPS) and followed the Harrington Trail. This is a red blazed trail approaching the summit from the south. Even on what was a fairly busy day on the mountain, I only encountered less than 10 parties. The ascent is gradual until the final 1/4 mile.

Starting at Westminster Rd, the trail will make a left just as it crosses a stone wall. About 100 yds past that there is a trail that leads up to a pair of electrical generation windmills. I didn't make the detour because I was in a bit of a time crunch, but looking at the map, it wouldn't be too difficult of a diversion.

With about a 1/4 mile left, the Harrington Trail will make a hard left and start going up the side of the mountain requiring stepping up the rock face. Most of these steps are about 1-1.5 foot steps, but there are some spots where they are a little taller. I saw a lot of people with dogs onthe trail, but I didn't see any on this portion of the trail.

Upon reaching the summit, I touched the highpoint which is just north of the viewing area. I went to the lookouts around the edge of the peak looking toward Boston and Worcester. It looks like the park service does interpretive talks on weekends for those people that would be interested.

I followed the path back to the car.
