Ascent Trip Report

The large wheatfield on the summit plateau has just been plowed. There was a lot of farm machinery on the Ziebart Road approach, so I drove around the north side of the high point area to the east slopes on Wellstadt Road. I parked and hiked up through scrubgrass to the plowed field area, but the recently plowed earth was like fine powder and I sunk in to my ankles when I tried to walk on it.

It seemed like this was a bad time of year to be attempting the Adams County high point. I thought about getting permission from a nearby farmhouse, but it seemed to be an imposition to ask to walk on just plowed fields. Even if it was OK, the surface of the earth would have made for very tedious walking, bascially postholing in dirt.

I decided it was best to return here another time. The point is very close to I-90 so it is not terribly out of the way.
