Ascent Trip ReportI was in a west-facing coastal area at about 45 degrees latitude, which means one thing: expect rain, and lots of it. Despite this, I decided to do a hike today anyway, so from 10:10 AM to 4:10 PM I climbed Alex Knob, a low 4250 foot foothill overlooking the Franz Josef Glacier in New Zealand's Westlands. I was starting at only about 600 feet, so it was a long, hard hike. I got totally soaked, and the summit was in clouds, but there were some nice views of the Southern Alps and the glacier when I was below the clouds and above the trees.
